It's a normal Windows Installer but when it gets to the progress bar screen it just sits there. There is this random app I want to install, but this one never completes and this is the reason I'm posting this thread today. But last night I let the Direct Play installer run overnight and it completed by the next morning!ģ. The installation would never complete and I was anxious to play so I just canceled it and the game worked fine. When launching this game it tried to install a "Windows Feature" called Direct Play. Installing Direct Play when trying to play Orcs Must Die from Steam. My specs are Intel Core i3 3.3GHz, 8 GB RAM, Win 8 64bit.Ģ. I could have completely reinstalled Windows 10 times over in the amount of time it took. In the end I just let the update run overnight and when I came back the next morning it finally finished! I have a pretty fast computer so there is no reason any update would take this long. After letting it sit for an hour or so with no activity I could cancel it and would usually have to hard reboot my computer to end the installation process. Installing a Windows 8.1 update: I don't remember the exact update number, but for some reason the installation of this update would never complete. Here are the 3 main problems I've seen:ġ. They are all similar in that they are all installers. I've had problems with several different programs and Windows updates that may be related or unrelated. I'm having a strange problem with my Windows 8 installation and I have no idea where to start looking for a solution.
